Critical Reflection

Critical reflection How do your products represent social groups or issues?  For the musical promotion package, (which included a music video, digipak, and social media page), we decided to film a music video in the style of a narrative-based music video, which followed a non-linear style. Our music video follows a protagonist who has experienced the loss of her friend. We wanted to portray an important message through our music video.  Dealing with a sensitive issue such as grief can be very hard to work through, especially due to the problem sometimes being swept under the rug, meaning if someone appears to be upset about the death of their friend they appear to be “weak” in the eyes of society. The song “Fourth of July” represents the emotions of death and how it can be hard to move on from, especially from a young age. The social issues that the music video represents outline how society disregards how death may impact the friend of the deceased person, as they...

Editing Techniques

Image
Some of the editing techniques that we are planning to use includes the following: Montage - A video montage is a series of images or shots that are edited together to create a sequence. These also help to convey larger information over a shorter period. Montages can also be helpful to showcase the passing time or to showcase story development, which relates to our music video, as it flashes back and fourth between the past and the present time, which is the friend trying to move on. By using a Montage, the storyline can follow a non-linear narrative structure which is when the story is not told in chronological order, which will help keep the audience engaged with the video, as the storyline will not be predictable. This was our main editing technique, as a lot of time and skill must go into it to help make sure that the narrative can be figured out easily and that the story is clear, and not too confusing for the audience to follow. We made sure that the storyline was easy to follow...

Digipak - photoshoot

Our digital will include a picture of the main character, as it will help the audience recognise her in the music video, knowing that the storyline is based around her and her path to move after her friend has passed away. We took multiple shots, using a Canon Camera, to help get a professional effect. We chose this location (the cemetery and a bench) as this is where the most emotions will come from. The lighting will be dark, to help connote the right emotions across to the public. The Canva presentation is showing you the options that we are going to be choosing from for our digipak. Costume + Makeup

Image
Makeup: The makeup for the music video will be based around an everyday look, meaning there will be minimal amounts of makeup to help bring a sense of normality to the music video and more relatable. Makeup in pop genre music videos are two extremes either very minimal and basic or bright, thick colours with a very cake-based look. We decided to go with a more minimalistic look, with using little eyeshadow, the reason we didn't use no eyeshadow was to help bring out both of the characters eyes, so that they stand out more in the project. We did use a bit of face makeup, when filming more depressing scene's, by making the actor seem more sad, to help convert her sadness and grief over the screen. I have created a mood board on Pinterest of the different makeup styles that we are going to use as inspirations. The tools needed for the makeup look we are planning to create is just a few brushes, and the makeup that our actor wears on a daily basis, as it will be custom to her skin ...

Ethics of Filming

Image
When filming a visual media product, one must take in to account a number of ethical considerations. The music industry  has set in place multiple rules, that are important to adhere too. These rules and help prevent members of the public to take issue with the material, this includes discrimination, offensive stereotypes and other issues that are not enforced by law. Media industries must ensure that they do not generalise any particular, group or race, this is due to the fact that people can be easily influenced, meaning their thoughts and feelings towards certain groups of people may be changed due to what they see, which should be avoided by the majority of media companies, at any costs. This includes not giving across any discriminatory views against any race, whether it is meant to be influential or not. They must also not include any factors that can give people the wrong idea of certain groups, as this may also increase the chances of racism against different cultures and e...

Genre Replication

Image
The song that my group and I have chosen is Fourth of July which is based in the pop genre, as it is a very popular song and many people are aware of it which is a important characteristic in the genre. The song follows a four by four count, which is the beat that songs need to follow, to be a part of this genre. The audience demographic for this genre is typically between 16-25 year olds, this age group tend to spend around 180 minutes daily average listening to music. The song fourth of July, audience demographic is more for people, who have struggled with the loss of a loved one, whether that be death or drifting, it can have the same connotations as each other so it can reach a wide demographic meaning a larger audience is reached, which is the same as a the pop genre.  The key audience demographic for Stefan Stevens is people ranging from the age of 16-35 who have suffered a loss of anyone, which means his audience is very large, which is like the pop genre, which is why it fa...

Technical planning

Image
Technical Planning: Shooting Diary: January 8th: Film the scenes in the graveyard. This scene will contain both characters, but mainly focusing on the protagonist who has to move on from the recent event of her friend passing away, the graveyard scene will convey the struggle that people face when having to come to terms with grief.  We plan to finish filing all these scenes on this day as it will give us a longer time period if we need to re-film regarding the circumstances of school and the coronavirus and how it may affect our actors, if they were to come into contact with the disease.  Start early in the day so that we can get a lot of different shots in that we can use later on when editing, also to film before it gets dark outside, otherwise the shots will look too different when trying to put them together, it also gives us more time to try different angles. The locations that we will use today, is the graveyard, this will be good for the music video, as the natural sur...
