Year 12 Reflection
Year 12 Reflection
Over the course of the Year 12 coursework I learnt many skills that I did not have before such as editing skills on Premier Pro and filming techniques used when producing the opening sequence. We created a 2 minute opening to a movie which should be apart of the thriller genre. When filming the opening sequence I developed a knowledge of how the different camera angles and shots were used such as a low angle close up or a high angle extreme shot, the filming helped me differentiate between all the shots and angles, as I was seeing them being used. I enjoyed filming my project and experimenting the different camera angles, for which we played around with later to help us decide which clip looked best for the opening, this made the editing process a little bit easier as we had more clips to work with giving us a range of choice being able to use. The main skills area that developed during this project were my editing skills, as I had never used Premier Pro before this project, as the year went I discovered new tools and techniques to use when trying to perfect my opening sequence.
The way that my skills developed more that I anticipated is because I did much research and watch many videos on how to extend my knowledge of the tools and hacks for editing my opening for the movie. With the opening being apart of the thriller genre, I had to make sure that I edited the sequence to match the codes and conventions of a thriller, and not of any other genre such as Action. This year I would like to develop my skills within the filming skills area, as they can be improved, this is can be done by practicing shooting camera angles and different shots and transitions such as zooming in or out.
I struggled a lot on the sound aspect of the opening because the music had to be more original that copied from the internet, which made it difficult as I had to create a sound that matched sequence correctly and made sure that the music built suspense as that is a main point of music in a thriller (main characteristic). Music can help create a more convincing atmosphere of the time or place for where the film is being based. Music is crucial factor that must be taken into consideration when producing a thriller films. It helps build suspense, tension and overall fear in either the scene or film. Without music the audience may find it harder to prepare for any jump scares that may come up, so I really had to make sure that the music I produced matched this and was up to the standards of thriller music. To prepare for Year 13 coursework over the summer I research via YouTube to look at how music videos are filmed and what is need to make it suitable for the type of music used i.e., Rap has completely different videos that Country. I also researched different editing techniques that are mainly used in music videos as I want to make sure that my music video is to the best of my abilities. I also am going to make sure that when filming the music video, I need to stick clearly to the structure and plan written and not waste time on random aspects and spend more time on important things.
